| It does seem a bit odd that here in January we'd be
talking about the August election, but It's time to start thinking about
it. Friday was the first day for candidates to
pick up qualifying petitions and some wasted no time.
Both Tony Aikens and Doyle Arp picked up petitions to
run for 21st District State Representative position being vacated by
Jimmy Matlock. I understand from a good source that Aikens and Arp
signed each other's petitions. Good to know they have such comradery for
now. I'll have lots more info on this race when it gets closer to time.
Four county school board races will be on the August
ballot and one incumbent already has a challenger. Kim Bridges looks to
take on incumbent Leroy Tate in the 4th district. 2nd District
incumbents William Jenkins and Bobby Johnson Jr. are yet unopposed.
With the passing of Ric Best and the temporary
appointment of his wife, Melissa, to the 6th district seat, only one
candidate has picked a petition for that seat. Aaron Lewis is the sole
candidate for now.
You can see all the seats for the August election in
the list below. I'm sure there will be more candidates for all the
seats. Candidates have till April 5th to file petitions.
Also, at the bottom of the page, I have included the
updated May election petition list. Not much change.
