Atomic Speedway

In a distant lifetime, a long time ago, I tried my hand at dirt track racing. Nearly all my racing career was spent at Atomic Speedway with just a couple trips to Smokey Mountain Raceway. I was partnered up with a friend named Danny Glass. We called ourselves, G&S Racing. I was just in the business for a couple years in 1981-1982. I participated in the Street Class division, That was the lowest class for hobbyists. It was a lot of fun but a lot of work and expense for a 30-45 minute race on Saturday nights.

All that said, my old racing partner, Danny Ray, somewhere found an old video of a race at the Atomic from 1982. We're both in the video. I'm #10, he's #99. My car was a 1966/67 Chevelle, his was a 1955 Chevrolet. My car was named the Sarah Belle. We spent a lot of hours in the old garage working on those hotrods. My best finish ever was 3rd place. In the street class, you were just happy if your car finished the race.

Sarah even got into it for a while. At the end of the season, the track would hold a Powder Puff race where the wives and girlfriends would race. She raced two times coming in fourth both times. Not going to say how many cars were in the race. At the time she worked at Maremont and was recognized in one of they're biannual magazine.

Anyway, below is a link to the old video. Those of you that enjoyed the Atomic will enjoy seeing the old video. Remember, I'm #10 and I don't know how that other guy passed me.
