ASFT Update
County commission took action at Monday's meeting to
address the ongoing issue with Lenoir City withholding documentation
needed to process the Adequate Schools Facilities Tax, ASFT. Commissioner Adam Waller made a motion to approve the resolution (12.5% of the ASFT collections going to Lenoir City schools for four years) contingent that Lenoir City agrees to not withhold paperwork for four years and turns over all current withheld paperwork. The motion was seconded by commissioner David Meers and passed unanimously. Lenoir City officials have been withholding the documents from the county Trustee's office needed for collection of the ASFT since June. Mayor Tony Aikens, who attended the meeting, stated that he would release the paperwork Tuesday morning. This is the first time in fourteen years that the contribution of the ASFT has been increased to the Loudon County schools. |
