Argument leads to arrest of Maryville man

A Maryville man is facing charges of domestic assault and false imprisonment after law enforcement responded Sunday to a call.
Dispatched to the 500 block of U.S. Highway 321 North for a possible disturbance, Lenoir City Police Officer Cole Morgan met a woman and John Dwayne Henry. Both agreed they had been arguing.

The woman claimed Henry was abusive by hitting her in the mouth and arms, along with yelling and screaming at her. There were no signs the woman had been struck, but she said she feared for her safety and called 911 from a phone that had been unplugged from the wall.

“John stated that he picked her up from a crack house in Blount County and took her (to) the room to maybe sober her up,” Morgan wrote in a report. “That’s when she started arguing and it escalated until I arrived. John said he did not put his hands on (the woman) at any point (and) he was simply trying to get her to calm down.”

Morgan spoke with a woman in the room next door who said she heard them arguing all day, with Henry at some point getting loud and the woman yelling and screaming for 911. That is when the woman next door asked the clerk to call 911.

Henry has a history of domestic violence with the woman and a child, Morgan wrote in the report. Henry was taken into custody without further incident.

Henry, 52, Maryville, was charged with domestic assault-misdemeanor and false imprisonment and released on $6,000 bond.
