Matlock ran for the office in 2018 but lost to current 6th district commissioner, Adam Waller.

Currently, Matlock has a lawsuit filed against him by Loudon County for violation of county zoning regulations. He has now been in violation for nearly 1,000 days since ordered by the board of zoning appeals to correct the violation. Matlock could be facing up to $50,000.00 in fines for the violation.

According to county tax records, Matlock also owes tens of thousands of dollars in back property taxes.

All county commission seats will be on the May 2022 ballot.
