James Anibol Gil Velez, 36, of Lenoir City, was released at 10 a.m. Sunday from the University of Tennessee Medical Center and immediately taken into custody. He is being held on a $500,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. Friday hearing in Blount County General Sessions Court. Last weekend, Velez allegedly shot a Maryville man, 22-year-old Christopher Ross, at an apartment on U.S. Highway 411. A short time later, he allegedly fired several rounds at Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority police officer Corey Shane Ogle. Ogle returned fire at Velez during the traffic stop on Alcoa Highway, hitting Velez twice. Velez was taken to UT Medical Center for treatment.
