Aikens Taps McNabb For Judge
At Mondays Lenoir City council meeting, mayor Tony
Aikens nominated council member, Robin McNabb, for the vacant city judge
position. McNabb had filed suit challenging former judge, Greg
Harrison's, qualifications to run for city judge since he didn't live in
the city. Two years and three courts later, the state supreme court
ruled that in fact, Harrison was not qualified to run for the office. At the end of the agenda, Aikens read a statement that he certainly didn't write, in my opinion, about all the reasons Ms. McNabb would be the right person for the job. This is a 180 from all the things he had said about Ms. McNabb in the past. It appears that Aikens goal is to get McNabb off city council and then likely would try to beat her in the 2026 judges election. Aikens pushed hard to get McNabb to commit to the job right then. Ultimately, McNabb said she would have to have time to consider the offer and speak to her family about it. Council was recessed until 6:00 pm Wednesday night when Ms. McNabb said she would give her decision. Everybody needs to watch the video. It's a rare day when you'll see Tony Aikens have to take backwater like this. The video can give more information than I could ever write. Below is a link to the meeting video. The judge discussion begins at about the 31:20 point of the video. |
