Affordable Housing
The overwhelming response from
citizens, at the Planning And Zoning Study meetings is, stop over
development and control urban sprawl. But one other issue that comes up
is the need for more affordable housing. The need for more affordable
housing most always is brought up by developers and realtors. Is there a
need for more affordable housing in Loudon County?
Currently, there are more than 2,000 new housing units proposed or already under construction in the county. Of those, 803 are low to moderate income, multi family rental apartments, 170 single family rental houses, 571 single family, affordable houses. That's a total of 1,548 affordable housing units currently under construction or already approved for construction. This does not include any smaller developments and single home constructions currently underway. It makes it hard to argue that there isn't enough affordable housing available right now with many more coming in the very near future. So as county officials continue taking input on future development, the question of the lack of affordable housing isn't even a consideration for now.
