From The Loudon County Sheriff's Department:
A PUBLIC AWARENESS MESSAGE FOR MOTORISTS IN TENNESSEE The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office wants to join other law enforcement agencies across the state and clarify some confusion that seems the be circulating in our communities about traveling to and from your intended destinations during this “Stay at Home” period that was recently announced by Governor Bill Lee.
County law enforcement officers will NOT pull you
over for the sole purpose of determining if you have legal
reason to be out of your residence, are employed by an essential
business or engaged in essential activity.
Deputies have not been directed or authorized to
stop vehicles to ask for documentation to be out in public. If a
deputy does so, we encourage you to call the non-emergency line
at 865-458-9081 and ask to speak to an on-duty sheriff’s office
supervisor. If you are stopped by a deputy for anything other
than a violation of the law, or reasonable suspicion of criminal
activity, you should ask for the deputy’s name and badge number
and notify a supervisor from LCSO.
We hope this message will clear up some of the
questions that we have had regarding this issue! And as always,
we strongly encourage you to follow all of the recommendations
provided by the CDC and the Department of Health.
