While the deadline for qualifying petitions for the March election has passed, petitions for one seat has been extended until Thursday, 12/21. The extension was required when incumbent school board member, Kenney Ridings, withdrew his petition on the last day to file. Ridings has held that seat for 12 years. On Wednesday, Stephanie Hatcher, picked up a petition to run for the 1st district Seat "A" Loudon County school board. That seat is currently held by Kenny Ridings who had already qualified to run for re-election. Hatcher returned her petition and qualified to run for the seat Thursday morning. Shortly thereafter, Ridings withdrew his petition. TCA- 2-5-101(H) is called the Anti-Skullduggery Act of 1991. The law requires that if an incumbent withdraws the day of the deadline to qualify or during the 7 days withdrawal period, the qualifying will remain open for an additional week. Qualifying petitions for Loudon County school board 1st district Seat "A" will remain available until December 21, 2023, 12:00 Noon. The remainder of the ballot is now set for the March 5th primary election. Looks like there will be 3 contested races in the election. Any candidate has until December 21, 2023, at 12:00 Noon to withdraw. I'll have much more on the election in a couple weeks.
