‘Rush’ hour: Belligerent driver faces multiple charges

A Georgia man is now facing three charges after speeding through Loudon County and, according to reports, refusing to comply with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

On Thursday, June 6, at approximately 6 p.m. … State Trooper Adam Malone was sitting stationary on Interstate 75 when he observed the driver of a red Ford Mustang pass by his location and rev his engine up — drawing the THP officer’s attention to the vehicle.

Also, as the vehicle passed, Malone noticed the Mustang’s window tint was extremely dark.

THE RACE IS ON?

According to the report, Malone began to try and catch up to the vehicle, and then was notified by other Troopers — on a separate traffic stop ahead of him — that the same Mustang was driving recklessly past them.

Malone eventually caught up to the vehicle at Mile Marker 70 and identified the driver as 26-year-old Bobby Xavier Slaughter of Hampton, Georgia.

The State Trooper approached the vehicle and attempted to explain the reason for the traffic stop, but Slaughter reportedly refused to give him any information and was very disorderly.

Malone reportedly asked Slaughter to roll his car window up a few inches so he could check the darkness of the tint, but Slaughter reportedly stated that Malone “wasn’t checking sht.”

The official report obtained by The News-Herald stated that Slaughter continued to refuse all of Malone’s lawful orders to produce identification, even after Malone explained he would most likely issue a warning for the tint violation.

Slaughter continued to refuse to comply and was told he would be asked to step out of the vehicle and arrested for failing to produce his ID.

Slaughter once again refused. And the report stated that Slaughter told the Trooper: “I’m not stepping out of nothing.”

Malone then radioed for another unit, and once the additional unit arrived, Malone asked Slaughter once more to step out of his vehicle. Malone then pulled out his Taser and told Slaughter he would be tased if he didn’t comply.

Slaughter proceeded to step out of his car, but reportedly remained tense while being placed in handcuffs … and continued being disorderly and cursing at Malone and the other Trooper assisting.

While speaking with Slaughter originally, Malone noticed the strong odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Malone and others searched the vehicle after detaining Slaughter and located approximately 1g of marijuana in an ashtray inside the car.

Also once he was detained, the tint was able to be measured and was discovered to be 4 percent and the legal limit in Georgia is 32 percent (car was registered in Georgia).

Slaughter was charged with unlawful use of driver’s license, failure to obey a police officer, simple possession/casual exchange and was held without bond.
