911 hangup leads to man's arrest

A Lenoir City man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement responded to a 911 hangup call Saturday on Cordova Lane.
Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Thomas Spradlin met a woman who answered the door crying and had a white rag on the left side of her face. Spradlin recognized there had been a physical altercation. Edward Le’Darrell Hale came down the stairs and spoke with Spradlin.

“I asked the offender what had happened between the two and he stated that he came home from work, then left, went to Bull Feathers and then came back home,” Spradlin wrote in a report. “When he arrived back home he went upstairs to see the victim. The offender stated that he thinks the victim, his girlfriend of 10 years, has been cheating on him with a female.”

An argument ensued. Hale noted the victim pushed him, and he admitted to hitting the woman in her face.

Spradlin then spoke with the victim who claimed Hale came home upset, accusing her of sleeping with a co-worker and leaving their child alone. Hale allegedly started hitting the bed while she tried to escape. At one point the victim tried calling 911, but Hale allegedly hit her and took the phone and smashed it. Spradlin noted he saw the broken phone.

“The victim stated that the offender then grabbed a gun and backed her into the closet,” Spradlin wrote in a report. “The victim stated that the offender then tried to give her the gun, and stated he was ready to go and for her to kill him. The victim stated that she was in the closet terrified for her life, and that she thought that he was going to kill her.”

The victim said Hale hit her again because she was calling the police and trying to leave, according to the report.

The woman pointed Spradlin to an open shoe box in the closet she said belonged to Hale. The shoe box contained a mason jar with 20 grams of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana. Multiple boxes of small baggies, scales used to weigh the drug and a drug ledger were found.

Hale, 45, was charged with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, interfering with an emergency call and manufacture, sell, delivery or resale of a Schedule VI substance and released on $33,000 bond.
