911 Funding Cut 8
At last Thursday's E-911
meeting, it was reported that Lenoir City did not pay their 2023-2024
contribution to 911. It was also reported that a bill for the 2024-2025
payment has been sent to the city, but they have not paid that bill
either. So the city is now in arrearage of $20,000.00 they owe the 911
Emergency Dispatch. This all started last year when Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, unilaterally, decided not to pay the city's bill even though the council had approved the payment. Aikens is now a contested election and is touting his undying support of first responders. ( I guess unless it's 911 Emergency Dispatch) Yet, he still refuses to pay the city's portion of the 911 funding and apparently, all the council is OK with that. Not one of them, including the three running for re-election, have ever raised any question to Aikens cutting off the needed funding. Who knows, maybe if the city get's a new administration, they might pay their bills. Below are previous 911 Funding Cut Stories.
