Woman jailed for pill possession

A 62-year-old Philadelphia woman is facing narcotics and drug paraphernalia charges after getting pulled over for a traffic violation Friday on Moat Sewell Road.

Stopping a vehicle because the driver, Donna Jean Carpenter, 62, Philadelphia, and a passenger, Marcia Anne Brown, 55, Loudon, were not wearing their seat belts, Loudon County Sheriff's Office Deputy Chris Jenkins learned through the National Crime Information Center that Brown had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear.

While detaining Brown, Carpenter was taken out of the vehicle, and deputies saw her attempt to put a clear wrapper into her pockets, Jenkins wrote in the report.

The wrapper contained three numerous prescription pills, including a purple pill believed to be 5 mg oxymorphone hydrochloride, 1 1/2 green pills believed to be oxycodone hydrochloride and 1 1/2 peach pills believed to be 0.5 mg alprazolam, according to the report.

Deputies also found two cut straws, commonly used to consume illegal drugs, on Carpenter, Jenkins wrote, noting that officers located two more peach pills believed to be alprazolam in Carpenter's purse.

"Ms. Carpenter ... did not have a prescription for the pills and could not produce any prescriptions for the pills," Jenkins wrote.

Carpenter was charged with two counts of manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance, manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule IV substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on $21,000 bond.

Brown was charged with failure to appear-general sessions and held on $2,000 bond.

Ohio men arrested

Three men from Ohio were taken to Loudon County Jail on multiple drug charges during a routine speeding stop last week on U.S. Highway 321.
LCSO Sgt. Jerramie Bowen could smell marijuana in the vehicle when the driver, Anthony Malachi Harris, 32, Cincinnati, Ohio, rolled down the window, according to the arrest report.

Harris told deputies that he was on the way to Ohio from Atlanta and arrived in Georgia on Saturday, April 30, while the back seat passenger, Deante Lamor Childress, 35, Hamilton, Ohio, said he got to Georgia on April 29, according to the report.

Harris and Childress told deputies their girlfriends had rented the vehicle they were driving, Bowen wrote.

"Their stories did not match up where they had been and what they were doing in Georgia," Bowen wrote.

A search of the vehicle unveiled 248 grams of a white powder in a bag in the back floorboard of the driver's seat. The powder tested positive for cocaine.
Harris told Bowen that he did not know about the drugs in the car, according to the report.

When Childress got out of the vehicle, Bowen saw an object at the front of his pants, and Childress told deputies that he had "less than a half ounce" of marijuana, according to the report.

During a pat down, Childress attempted to flee the scene but was taken into custody after a "short foot pursuit," Bowen wrote, noting that Childress threw out the evidence during the pursuit, and it could not be located.

While in pursuit of Childress, the front seat passenger, Donte Lamont Thomason, 41, Cincinnati, Ohio, took an item out of the glove compartment and threw it in the back floorboard, according to the report.

Childress was charged with manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance, tampering/fabricating with evidence and resisting arrest and released on $62,000 bond.

Harris was charged with manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance and released on $40,000 bond.
