A 52-year-old white female was found dead in her apartment Tuesday, said Lenoir City Police Department Chief Don White.

The body was found at 225 Kelly Lane Apt. 2J after a neighbor made a 9-1-1 call around 10:30 a.m. reporting an unconscious female at the residence, White said.

Rumors are swirling that the death was a homicide, White acknowledged.

"When you go into process a residence, you've got to evaluate everything that's going on before you make that call," he said.

There has been no determination of the woman's death and the name has not been released.

"It's not obvious, sometimes you go into a scene and it's obvious what you've got," White said noting the question surrounding the cause of death.

There were no witnesses and there was nothing found based on interviews that would leave officers to believe it was a murder, White said.

White said he could not comment on what, if anything, was found inside the home.

An autopsy was ordered and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation was brought in to help process the scene, he said.

Right now, officials are just trying to determine what happened, he said.

"We're just trying to put all the pieces back together, White said.

White said he anticipated the processing of the scene to be completed by Wednesday.

"I'm anticipating that they will be finishing up today, I just don't know," he said.
