News Herald Arrest report

Woman charged with possession of meth

A Friendsville woman has been arrested after drugs were found near an infant.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Austin Gann noticed a white vehicle failing to maintain its lane July 24 on Unitia Road near U.S. Highway 321. Gann stopped the vehicle after watching what his report described as dangerous driving.

While talking with the driver, Ashly Dawn Novitzke, 36, Gann noticed a child’s car seat sitting loose on the rear seat of the vehicle. An infant drinking from a bottle was in the seat.
Before giving Gann consent to search the vehicle, Novitzke told the deputy she was in possession of methamphetamine. She also said meth and a pipe could be found in the front pocket of a child’s diaper bag in the front seat of the vehicle.

Gann found a glass pipe with residue and a plastic bag with a crystal-like substance in the diaper bag.

Novitzke was charged with child endangerment, manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on $19,000 bond.

Man charged with DUI

A Lenoir City man was charged with driving under the influence with a young child in the vehicle.

Lenoir City Police Officer Andrew Lee said he watched a gold vehicle swerve into an adjacent lane and nearly cause a collision with another vehicle July 25. Lee stopped the vehicle and talked with the driver, Miguel Angel Martinez-Pineda, 28.

Martinez-Pineda had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and bloodshot, watery eyes, according to the arrest report. Another officer was called to assist with translation.

Martinez-Pineda performed poorly on all administered tests and admitted to consuming multiple alcoholic beverages. Several empty containers of the beverages were in view throughout the vehicle.

A 5-year-old child was in the back seat without a proper child-restraint seat. Dispatch informed officers that Martinez-Pineda driver’s license was suspended, and he refused to provide a blood sample. Officers found a metal tumbler containing beer in the front cup holder.

Martinez-Pineda was charged with a child restraint seat violation, driving on a revoked/suspended license, driving on roadways laned for traffic, driving under the influence, open container and violation of implied consent and released on $2,500 bond.
