We Have A Plan

Through this political season, or as some call it, the silly season, I've heard some county commission candidates make the statement that Loudon County doesn't have a plan for development. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

The county commission has in fact been very proactive to adjust to and meet the growing development demands on the county. We have taken several actions to control over development in the county's jurisdiction.

Just a few years ago in the county, the maximum density with a PUD overlay, Planned Unit Development Overlay, was eight units per acre with a minimum acreage of seven acres required for a PUD. We changed that to 2.5 units per acre maximum with a minimum of seventy-five acres to receive a PUD. Hopefully, the county is on the verge of elimination PUD's all together making the maximum density two units per acre.

It's Lenoir City council that has no plan for development. City council has open the door for any and all residential developments that want to locate within the city limits. Folks might ask the city council persons what their plans for residential development are. And no, the county has no jurisdiction within the city limits.

So the next time you hear someone say, the county has no plan, feel free to correct them. Just simply look at what's going on in the city and the county to see who has a plan.
