Volunteers spend Saturday moving Greenback School into new home

GREENBACK (WATE) - Volunteers spent Saturday afternoon helping to get a Loudon County school moved in, just in time for classes to begin.

The new Greenback School will house students from Pre-K through 12th grade. It replaces the old building, originally built in the 1930s.

Getting the school ready in time for Tuesday's grand opening required some help though, so the school decided to ask for the community's assistance.

Students, parents, and others turned out on Saturday to carry school supplies and help teachers unpack their classrooms.

Many say they've grown up in the community, and having a new school is in itself a reward for their labors.

"I'm a graduate of Greenback myself, so this is something we never thought we would accomplish, having a new school," volunteer Lori Guillemet said.

Students will begin the day on Tuesday at their old school, and then make a ceremonial walk to the new building.
