Very Old Bones

‘Very old’ human remains found at Lenoir City home

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human remains were found at a residence in Lenoir City.

The remains were found in the shed of a residence in the 2800 block of Martel Road according to LCSO. A spokesperson with the sheriff’s office went on to say that it appears that the remains are “very old archeological artifacts that were kept from the previous owner.”

According to Sheriff Jimmy Davis, the owners are actively remodeling their house and decided to clean out the shed as well, filled mostly with antiques and tools from the property’s previous owner. Davis went on to say that the current owners posted an invitation on the Facebook marketplace for people to comb through the shed for any valuables or antiques they might want.

One Blount County family reportedly took home a bucket and found a jaw bone and several teeth buried under pottery and seashells.

“We’re going through kind of like an archaeological dig where we have two trained from the FBI forensic academy, we have crime scene team putting together and all our detectives are here as well going through the area systematically to try and document everything we find,” said Davis.

Detectives are still treating this as an “active investigation” until further information is found.
