On the August 08 election ballot, Lenoir city voters
are being asked to change the 100 year old Lenoir City Charter. Mayor
Matt Brookshire, City Manager Dale Hurst, City Judge Terry Vann and
others have decided they must take control of the check book at city
hall. That's about the only thing left they don't control. Problem is,
the only way they can get control is a change in the charter.
Fortunately, the founders of Lenoir City realized when they wrote the
city charter that it was important to have an elected Treasurer/Recorder
that would be independent of any control by the mayor or others. They
obviously felt the voters were more capable of choosing who handles the
money than council. City officials are asking you, the city voters, to change the charter to allow them the power to appoint the Treasurer/Recorder. They feel they are more qualified to pick the person handling the money than the voters. The reality is, certain individuals in city government feel they have to get control of the office of Treasurer/Recorder. The fox watching the hen house. Voters have a clear choice come August, they can continue to elect who will control the city's money or they can turn over that control to a few self serving individuals. The decision is yours. Do you really trust these men? Vote No On Charter Change
