Traffic stop leads to arrest on DUI, drugs

A Loudon man was arrested this weekend on multiple charges after police initially sought the driver for an expired tag.

Conducting a traffic stop on a Ford Ranger about 1 a.m. Saturday, Lenoir City Police Officer Tyrel Lorenz wrote in an arrest report that he saw the truck nearly rear end another vehicle.

Lorenz spoke with the driver, Joel Wayne Patterson, 43, Loudon, who had an odor of alcohol coming from the truck, and a check through dispatch revealed that Patterson’s license was suspended, according to the arrest report. Patterson told police that he had not consumed alcohol.

“Upon further questioning him about it he changed his story multiple times before admitting he consumed 3 shots of alcohol,” according to Lorenz.
Patterson performed poorly on field sobriety tests. While being placed into custody, Patterson told police that he had smoked marijuana that night and had marijuana in the truck, according to police.

Lorenz located a “small amount” of marijuana, two pipes and a grinder, according to the arrest report.

Patterson was charged with driving on a suspended license, driving under the influence, simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia and released on $5,000 bond.

Greenback woman charged with assault

A woman was taken into custody this past week after an alleged domestic dispute with her brother and grandparents.

Responding to a call of a dispute in the 280 block of Trigonia Road in Greenback, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Craig Brewer arrived on the scene to find Whittney Michelle Strayn, 24, Greenback, “pushing on her grandmother” in the driveway, according to Brewer.

Brewer learned Strayn had a disagreement with her brother earlier in the day and had come outside as her grandparents attempted to leave with her sibling.
“She was being aggressive and threatening to her grandfather to do something to have him thrown in jail,” Brewer said. “Her grandmother was trying to move her from in front of the vehicle so that the two males could leave and Mrs. Strayn was fighting with her grandmother.”

When Strayn realized that police were at the residence, the woman attempted to retreat into the home, according to the arrest report. The grandmother had red marks on her right arm. Brewer said Strayn had been drinking that day and taking prescription medicine. “She is very argumentative and vocal with everyone including officers,” Brewer wrote in his report.

Strayn was charged with domestic assault and released on $1,500 bond.
