If you thought Lenoir City officials might
come to their senses and stop the madness of mass over
development in the city, you would be wrong, dead wrong. If you
thought that approving over 2,500 new residential units, mostly
apartments, in eighteen months would be enough, again you would
be wrong.
At last Monday's Lenoir City council meeting,
council unanimously approved the rezone of two parcels of
property that could allow up to 2,250 additional residential
units within the city.
The first parcel is what's known as the
Cheatham property that sits behind and beside Walmart and Home
Depot. Fifteen acres was rezoned to R-3 High Density
Residential. R-3 allows up to 24 units per acre. The balance,
approximately 38 acres of the property is or was zoned, R-2
Medium Density which allow up to 18 units per acre.
The second parcel was the A.J. Bell property
on old Highway 95. The property surrounds the sports complex.
The 50 acre parcel was rezoned to R-3 High Density Residential.
As stated before, R-3 allows up to 24 units per acre.
I want to make it as clear as possible.
The mayor/council did not approve the construction of 2,250
residential units. They did, however, rezone the properties that
could allow up to that many residential units to be built.
Ultimately, developers for the two properties will have to
submit plans and plats to the city planning commission to show
exactly what they plan to build. But, we all know that all
developers will build as many units as they possibly can. All
for the money.
The mayor/council are committed to the
wholesale destruction of the city and county. As long as Tony
Aikens is in charge, this will never stop. The only way this
stops is if and when there are enough city council members
elected to stop the rubber stamping of the Aikens agenda.
This November, three, half of the city council
seats, will be on the ballot. City residents will have an
opportunity to be heard at the ballot box.
I'll keep you posted as the process continues.
