Total Disaster 19

At the last Lenoir City council meeting, council approved the rezone of a parcel of property to R-2. The R-2 zone would allow for up to 18 units per acre. This could allow 1,440 homes. This is the same property formerly owned by the Loudon County school board on Hwy. 321 out toward Interstate 40.

Last month, DR Horton went before the Lenoir City planning commission asking for the rezone on the same property. They were told they couldn't get the rezone until they bought the property. So this month, the actual property owner, Aleksandr Sergeyevic Botezat, requested the rezone. The planning commission approved the request, forwarding the request to the city council.

The council unanimously approved the requested rezone without any questions or discussion.

Obviously, a developer couldn't build 1,440 homes on the property but just imagine even a thousand new DR Horton style homes ten feet apart on this property. Do you think mayor Aikens and the council gave any thought to how this development would impact the city and county?

Apparently, they just don't care.
