Tinted windows leads to Sunday arrests

A Knoxville man and woman were arrested Sunday on drug charges after law enforcement noticed a vehicle with darkly tinted windows.

While on patrol, Lenoir City Police Officer Riley Miller was near a retail store on U.S. Highway 321 and saw a black Dodge Charger with windows he couldn’t see in. He stopped the vehicle and talked with driver Kristopher Mark Daniel, 40, and passenger Malinda Lee Carmichael, 27. Prior to the stop, Miller confirmed Daniel’s license was suspended.

Daniel told the officer he was on probation for a drug paraphernalia charge and admitted to having “rigs” he used for methamphetamine inside the car. Daniel handed the needles to Miller.

Daniel also said he had a “friend” who left a zipper coin bag inside the car. Prior to the search, Miller asked Carmichael, who had a small zipper coin bag, to step out of the car.

“She handed the bag to Officer J. Ketner, where he located three individual baggies containing a crystal-like substance that tested positive for methamphetamine ...,” Miller wrote in a report. “Also located inside the zipper coin bag were two empty ‘dime bags,’ one matching the rest of the empty unused ‘dime bags’ that were located inside the center console of the vehicle. Inside the center console were 100 unused ‘dime bags’.”

Miller determined there were indicators of resale of illegal narcotics.

Carmichael was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth and held without bond.

Daniel was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture, delivery, sale or possession of meth and driving on a revoked/suspended license and held without bond.

Man arrested in LCSO visitation lobby

A Loudon man is facing multiple charges after law enforcement found him in the Loudon County Sheriff’s Office visitation lobby.

According to a report from LCSO Inv. Robert Stanley, Michael Eugene Chastain, 48, who had an active warrant for his arrest, was taken into custody Nov. 10 after corrections officers noticed him in the lobby.

“Prior to entering the jail, Chastain was asked several times if he had anything on his person or in his property, to which Chastain answered negatively,” Stanley wrote in a report. “Approximately 1.19 grams of a crystalline substance, which tested positive as methamphetamine, was located in a rubber container, wrapped in electrical tape, wrapped in plastic and finally wrapped in a black bandana inside Chastain’s jacket pocket. The methamphetamine was brought into the Loudon County Detention Facility without express written consent of the jail administrator where prisoners are quartered.”

Chastain was charged with contraband in a penal institution, manufacturer, delivery, sale or possession of meth and violation of parole and held on $10,000 bond.
