Thrive Loudon County

Some months ago, The Loudon County Economic Development Agency, EDA, hired a firm to do a survey of Loudon County pertaining to the future and what  direction the residents wanted to see the county go. The money for the survey, $50,000.00, was provided by a grant from the state Economic Development Agency.

No surprises, the survey comes back supporting more residential growth, workforce housing, multi-family and low to moderate income housing. The report also accuses the county of wanting "no growth" which is just not true. The report completely fails to mention the disaster of over development in Lenoir City. It sounds more like realtor group wrote the report rather than using input from citizens. It also suggests school districting, expanding the city's Urban Growth Boundaries. The report is critical of the county's zoning policy and calls for round-abouts.

I don't know the company that did the survey but obviously, they weren't paying a lot of attention to detail. At least twice, the report states that Loudon County has two major interstates, Interstate 75 and Interstate 64. It also refers to the Tellico Village Redevelopment Authority, I assume they mean, the Tellico Reservoir Development Agency. Kind of important things not to get wrong.

It's about what you would expect from a state funded report that wants to push an agenda. There is some good demographic info, if you can trust it, but much of it is just through 2020 which makes it somewhat obsolete. Below is a link to the 60 page report for your review.

You should read it, it's $50,000.00 of your state tax dollars at work.
