Tennessee ranked among most sinful states in US, study says Nevada, Louisiana, California and Florida came in ahead of Tennessee.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A new study has released its rankings of the most sinful states in America, and Tennessee was ranked in the top 10.

WalletHub released its “Most Sinful States in the U.S.” study on Tuesday morning with the Volunteer State ranked at No. 5.

So, how did they come to this conclusion? WalletHub said it compared 50 states across 55 indicators of immoral or illicit behavior, including violent crimes, excessive drinking and gambling disorders among the population.

Tennessee was ranked third for anger/hatred, 15th for jealousy, second for excesses/vices, 11th for greed, and fifth for lust. Nevada, Louisiana, California and Florida came in ahead of Tennessee.

“Some states are more well-behaved than others, though,” the study said. “In order to determine the states that most give in to their desires, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 55 key indicators of immoral or illicit behavior. Our data set ranges from violent crimes per capita to excessive drinking to the share of the population with gambling disorders.”
