LENOIR CITY (WATE) – For the third year
in a row, a teenage girl is helping her fellow East
Tennesseans by making earrings. It started with a friend
fighting Leukemia and then even more families at Children’s
Hospital. WATE 6 On Your Side finds out which charity she’s
giving to next and how you can help.
“My mom’s friend has a daughter who had Leukemia and I felt bad and I wanted to raise money because they couldn’t afford all the medicine,” said Airen Tester. Airen’s mom Amy Tester says last year Airen doubled that number raising $450 and used the money to buy toys and delivered them to the kids at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital “We learned about the need not only for the patients but
the patients family’s as well who stay there days on end and
need simple things like shampoos and things for siblings to
do while they’re there,” said Amy Tester. So I asked Airen, what drives her giving spirit. “When my friend went to the hospital and I knew Children’s Hospital was taking care her, I wanted to take care of Children’s Hospital as well and help,” said Airen. This year Airen’s goal is to raise $850 and she’s already halfway there. She wants to donate to children who are burn victims at Shriners Hospital in Kentucky. “She’s always been very giving child, mom I have to pack an extra lunch today at school because I know a girl who doesn’t a lunch, I can’t say it surprises me that she wants to keep doing this but it makes me very proud,” said Amy Tester. The family tells us they will deliver any money donated
to Shriner’s Hospital during Airen’s spring break in April. |
