Woman charged with theft

A Loudon woman faces several theft charges for incidents dating back to July.

According to a report from Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Inv. Jerramie Bowen, a woman said July 7 she hired Kayla Elizabeth Shaw, 33, to do yard work at her residence on Tanasi Lane. The woman said she paid Shaw with an $80 check, which was taken to Foothills Federal Credit Union and the amount changed to $180.

On July 27, LCSO deputies responded to a woman’s house on Tahlequah Lane to report a theft. When deputies arrived, they spoke with a woman who said she hired Shaw to do yard work.
“Mrs. Shaw asked if her son could use the restroom and she let him,” Bowen wrote in a report. “(The woman) then went in the house to her bedroom and found Mrs. Shaw coming out of the room. Mrs. Shaw said that she went to the wrong restroom. (The woman) later found jewelry missing from her bedroom after Mrs. Shaw left. She also noticed her credit card missing from her purse.”
The victim’s credit card was used at a nearby gas station for $14.23, and there were also two attempts to withdraw $500 from a bank.
Shaw was arrested Aug. 16 after Loudon Police Officer Chris Law met Shaw on Grove Street in reference to a lost wallet.
Shaw was charged with five counts of theft of property, two counts of forgery and three counts of illegal possession/fraudulent use of credit card and released on $18,000 bond.
