SWAT involved after man harms dog, barricades self

Blount County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team helped Lenoir City Police Department and Loudon County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrest a Lenoir City man who barricaded himself May 2 in a basement after harming the family dog.
A man called LCPD about 2 p.m. and said he had been awakened by the sound of banging from Darrien Von Farley, 24. When the man went downstairs to see what Farley wanted, he watched Farley emerge from the basement with a small sledgehammer and knife. The man also saw blood on the door and floor of the basement.

According to reports, the man asked Farley where the family dog was and if he had killed the animal. Farley said he didn’t know where the dog was and that she “hit herself.”

The man went back upstairs and Farley followed him throughout the home while still carrying the knife and sledgehammer. The man said he called 911 because he felt threatened by Farley.

Loudon County deputies were able to safely remove the man and another individual, but Farley barricaded himself in the basement to avoid contact. LCSO detectives wrote warrants for Farley’s arrest while the Blount County SWAT team was called in to assist. Farley was taken into custody shortly after 5 p.m.

The dog was transported to University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center, where it received a blood transfusion and was declared in critical but stable condition. A GoFundMe was set up by the dog’s previous foster parent to help pay the medical bills at https://gofund.me/6b0531bd.

Farley was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated cruelty to animals and resisting arrest and held on $37,500 bond.
