The Tennessee Highway Patrol said Loretta M. Weaver, 48, of Athens, was traveling southbound on Interstate 75 shortly before 2 a.m. when her 1999 Suzuki Vitara went off the road near mile marker 72. While trying to steer the SUV back onto the roadway, Weaver overcorrected and slid sideways into the median, where the vehicle hit a tree. The impact of the accident crushed the vehicle, killing Weaver.

Investigators requested a test to see if alcohol contributed to the crash.
