Sales Tax Increase?

Looks like Lenoir City mayor, Tony Aikens, and his council are moving forward on their threat to raise the city sales tax.

On tonight's council meeting, 10/23, item 6 (a) & (b) are about raising the sales tax. I'm sure it'll be all for the children again, the same way it was back in 2018, the last time Aikens tried to raise the sales tax.

Aikens seems to be obsessed with raising Lenoir City residents taxes. The rain tax, property taxes, or sales taxes, there is no tax increase he won't support.

I think Aikens plan this time will be to have a special election at some point. He certainly doesn't want the sales tax increase on the ballot when he and three of his council members are on the ballot. Special elections are very expensive and will have to be paid for by city tax payers. If Aikens thinks the tax increase is such a good idea, why not just add it to the November ballot. That wouldn't cost the city anything.

Nothing in Lenoir City will ever change until something changes in Lenoir City.
