Family Resource Center’s Arts & Souls
After-school Project to showcase ROMP
Over the years, the Family Resource Center (FRC)
of Loudon County has conducted drama, dance, and art shows to display
knowledge and skills gained during participation in FRC projects. This
year’s theme for the Arts & Souls After-school Project is a Broadway
style musical performance, entitled ROMP.
The goal for this project was for the children
to create their own version of the musical STOMP. All children,
ages 5-18, residing in Loudon County were welcomed to participate in
this event and no fees were charged for children to participate. Musical
experience was not necessary; however regular rehearsal attendance was
required. The children attended practice one day a week for twelve
weeks, beginning the first week of February and continuing through
April.
This particular project is funded by the 2010
Arts Builds Communities Grant. This grant was made available to the
Loudon County FRC by the National Endowment for the Arts, the Tennessee
Arts Commission, and the Greater Knoxville Arts & Culture Alliance. The
show date for ROMP is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010, at the Lyric
Theatre in Loudon.
Admission to this event is free. There will be two
performances. The first show will begin at 2:00. Following the
performance, there will be a “Meet the Artists Reception” for the
community to express their feelings about the project and performance.
Another performance will follow the reception and begin at 4:30. For
more information about the FRC and for tickets and show times of ROMP,

Assistant Director at (865)458-8502.
