Rockford man flees during local traffic stop

A Rockford man is facing multiple charges after fleeing a traffic stop Monday morning.

Dispatched to Hirst Circle in Lenoir City on a report of a suspicious vehicle, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Kenny Palmer watched a red Dodge pickup truck turn onto Old Midway Road.

LCSO Investigator Jamie Ketner noted in his report that Palmer stopped the truck on Garnet Hill Drive, and the passenger fled on foot. The driver, Dallas Blake Householder, 24, Knoxville, identified the man who ran as Kavonte J. Carson, 22, Rockford. Running his name through dispatch, Palmer was notified that Carson had warrants out in Blount and Anderson counties.

Palmer identified a blue container that had three baggies of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana outside the passenger door. The bags contained 28 grams, according to the report.

After unsuccessfully searching for Carson, dispatch told officers they received a call from a residence near where the suspect ran.

“The subject at the residence stated the male said his name was Kavonte Carson and he was wanting to use the phone,” Ketner wrote in his report. “The subject at the residence stated he would not let him use the phone so he took off running again. We were still unable to locate the suspect at that residence.”

Law enforcement was notified of a suspicious person matching Carson’s description on Covenant Circle. Carson was arrested by Ketner and transported to Loudon County Jail.

Carson was charged with evading arrest, manufacture, sell, delivery and resale of a Schedule VI substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and held without bond.
Householder was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and manufacture, sell, delivery and resale of a Schedule VI substance and held on $11,500 bond.

After catching up with the vehicle at Niles Ferry Road, Garland talked with the driver, who identified himself as “Tucker Lane.” The driver said he had been in Madisonville and his grandmother had an emergency in Knoxville. A 17-year-old juvenile passenger was also in the vehicle. Tucker Lane was determined to not be a real name after running it through dispatch. “While speaking with the driver, I did notice the odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle,” Garland wrote in his report. “After speaking to (the passenger), he stated that they had not been in Madisonville and that he had snuck out of the house and was picked up by (Warren). (The passenger) also stated that he had a small (bag) of marijuana in his jacket.” Garland located a bag with a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
