Retreat, Retreat

News Herald Public Notice

It appears the Lenoir City Board of Education may not be as impoverished as they let on to be. Coming right off a major defeat on their sales tax election, the board and I'm sure many staff and family members, will also attend their annual board retreat in Pigeon Forge. This little junket won't be cheap. I doubt the participants will not be paying their own way.

Talk about tone deaf. This is basically sticking it in the voters face.

I've never understood why small town, local, elected officials feel they have to leave town to discuss local issues. Think it's just to let the tax payers foot the bill for a free trip? The Loudon County School Board just held their spring planning session a month or so ago. They met for their all day meeting at the vocational school on Harrison Road. I dare say they accomplished as much or more than the city school board will on their Pigeon Forge retreat.

Let's be honest, they want the free trip and at the same time, there's not likely to be any locals attend the out of town meeting.

On a side note, just like last year, we don't really know where the retreat will be held. Like last year, the location of the retreat is just listed by address. If you Google that address, well, you'll see. Maybe some of you can figure out where the meeting will be held.

The good news is, maybe the city school system doesn't need more money after all. Apparently, they have enough to spare to take a fun little trip.

You have to wonder though, was the Lenoir City Venue just not suitable for their needs?
