When we disconnect from
a 9-1-1 call, most of the time that is the last we hear
about an incident. We never know their names, their
families, or even if they survived. This story is
different! They actually got to meet the survivor of a
horrific accident. These moments are why we do what we
do every single day. Great job, Amanda Duncan Johnston,

Back in October of last year, Brenton was involved in a devastating accident that left him pinned inside his vehicle. The extrication took over an hour and a half, with multiple agencies working side by side at the scene, including the previously mentioned responders, along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Lenoir City Fire Department, and James Towing. It was a massive, coordinated effort to safely extricate Brenton and begin lifesaving care. Brenton was then transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he underwent multiple surgeries. Tragically, as a result of the accident, both of Brenton's legs were amputated.
On Thursday, Brenton and MaKaylia wanted to personally meet the responders who helped save his life and share how the accident has forever changed him. His strength and resilience in the face of unimaginable challenges moved everyone who was present. Calls like Brenton’s leave a lasting mark on first responders. Though we often never learn what becomes of the people we help, moments like this remind us why we do what we do. It was humbling, emotional, and an incredible honor to hear Brenton’s story and witness the strength he and MaKaylia carry with them. We’re grateful for their visit and for allowing us to be a small part of their journey. Their courage will stay with us always.
