Police blotter: Lenoir City man charged with drugs, invalid ID

A Lenoir City man was taken to Loudon County Jail after being found with what police identified as an invalid passport from Mexico, marijuana and cocaine.

Officers with the Ninth Judicial District drug task force, Lenoir City Police Department and Loudon County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant May 14 at a residence in the 100 block of White Wing Road. Serafin Zavala, 30, Lenoir City, was known as an aggravated re-entry because of his criminal history and past deportations.

During the operation, police found Zavala to be in possession of a falsified Mexican passport with the name Carlos Gonzalez Frutos. Zavala identified himself to police as Frutos, according to the police report.

Upon searching the residence, police found one-half pound of marijuana, about 2 1/2 ounces of cocaine, which was packaged for resale, and scales, according to police. The residence at White Wing Road was within less than 1,000 feet of a day care facility.

Zavala was charged with manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule II substance, manufacture/sell/delivery/resale of a Schedule VI substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal impersonation and identity theft and held on a $29,500 bond.

The passenger retrieved the item, which Palmer said he believed to be marijuana. While searching the vehicle, Palmer located another baggy between the driver and passenger seat, rolling papers in the driver’s side door and a grinder located at the back of the vehicle in a speaker box. A passenger, Roy Austin Oller, 18, Loudon, said the grinder belonged to him, but the rolling papers were not his. Melton and Oller said the baggy with the green substance and the rolling papers were not theirs. Since the baggy was located within reach of all the occupants in the vehicle, Melton and Oller were arrested for simple possession.

Lenoir City man found with marijuana

Dispatched to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Williams Ferry Road in Lenoir City, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ben Everett saw a Honda Accord sitting in a parking lot. Speaking with Nathan Robert Schaich, 33, Lenoir City, Everett said in the police report that the man looked “very nervous and began talking to himself.”

Schaich agreed to a police request for a field test to make sure he was able to drive but did not follow commands and performed poorly on the tasks, according to the report.

While patting down Schaich, Everett found a “small amount” of a substance that was believed to be marijuana in a bag in Schaich’s pocket. Everett also found a bowl used for taking drugs, Everett said. “The bowl was made out of a clear plastic bottle with tin foil wrapped around the end of the bottle and had particles of the green leafy substance located inside of it,” Everett said.

Everett asked Schaich when was the last time he smoked marijuana and the man said he had just used some before police arrived on the scene. Schaich was placed under arrest and transported to Loudon County Jail.

At the jail and after a more thorough search, a Suboxone wrapper was located inside Schaich’s wallet, which contained one strip of the drug inside the wrapper.

Schaich was charged with bringing contraband into a penal institution, possession of drug paraphernalia and simple possession/casual exchange and released on $2,000 bond.
