to no one's surprise, the new Lenoir City attorney is related to the old
city attorney. in a 3-1 vote, council picked Gregory Chance Harrison as
the new city attorney. The name may have a familiar ring to it. Gregory
Chance Harrison is the son of former Lenoir City attorney and judge,
Gregory Harrison.Harrison Jr. was recommended by the personal committee just before the city council meeting. He was the choice of mayor Tony Aikens. Only one other attorney submitted an application for consideration, Becca Vigent. The personal committee is composed of councilman Todd Kennedy, James Brandon and Jim Shields. Shields was absent. Aikens also votes on this committee.
At the council meeting, councilwoman, Robin McNabb, was the only NO vote on Harrison. She raised concerns about the process, or lack of process, the city used to make the selection. The city made no effort to post the job opening in any publications. But let's be real, it was going to be whoever Aikens wanted anyway. After all, what seems to be the main qualification to be in the Aikens circle? Do whatever the mayor says.
