News Herald Arrest Report

More than 300 grams of marijuana seized

A Lenoir City woman has been arrested on drug charges after law enforcement stopped a "suspicious" vehicle.

Lenoir City Police Officer Charlie Myers watched a 2009 Prius go into the rear parking lot of a local motel. A man exited the vehicle, went inside the motel and came out with a woman, later identified as Megan Ashley McCurry.

“Upon contact with the Prius, I smelt the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle,” Myers wrote in his report. “All occupants were removed from the vehicle and the defendant was read her Miranda rights by Officer C. Kirkpatrick.”

McCurry admitted to having a backpack with 377 grams of marijuana and scales. The marijuana was placed in 10 containers. In addition, a small bag containing a crushed Suboxone pill and a small box with hash oil were found in the backpack.

McCurry, 19, Lenoir City, was charged with manufacture, sell, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a firearm during a dangerous situation and two counts of simple possession/casual exchange and held on $28,000 bond.

Man faces multiple charges

Answering a call of reckless burning on East Coast Tellico Parkway in a field belonging to Tellico Reservoir Development Agency, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy J.C. Schultz talked with Greenback Volunteer Fire Chief Ronnie Lett, who said a man with a “large Craftsman wrench” in his hand sped away in a green Ford Ranger pickup truck when Lett pulled up.

Schultz stopped the truck and was presented a Tennessee driver’s license with the name “Shannon Scott Russell,” according to the report. A woman who stopped by to pick up the man identified him as Christopher Deway Clabough.

“When I asked why the male had bloodshot eyes and the odor of alcohol about his person (there was a empty beer can on the scene) the male stated that he had smoked marijuana a couple of hours earlier on this date,” Schultz wrote in his report.

Clabough was taken into custody. Officers found a syringe after searching him at Loudon County Jail.

Clabough, 25, Lenoir City, was charged with theft under $1,000, reckless burning, public intoxication, criminal impersonation and introduction to a penal facility and held on $21,000 bond.
