Merry Christmas Developers |
Lenoir City took another step toward giving away
millions of tax dollars to developers. A state required public hearing
was held Thursday night to discuss the proposed new road to be built by
the city for Developer Ed Loy's Creekwood Development. While much ado
was made about the convenience on the new "connector road" little
advantage for anyone but the developer could actually be found.
The new road will connect Hwy. 321 at the Visitor's Bureau with Hwy. 70 just north of the I-75 bridge over 70. The developer has promised major development for the project if only the city will build him a new road. Apparently the city has taken the bait. Confused priorities is nothing new for Lenoir City officials. With the down town infrastructure crumbling, city officials have continually found ways to squander millions on projects of speculation. Five million for a water line on 321 with no customers, a sewer line for Roane County, swimming pool, walking trails, etc. All these are nice but fire protection, sanitary drinking water and a functioning sewer system would seem to be far more important. The time for public comment will continue until till about mid January. If you would like to submit a comment you can click on the link below for a copy of the public comment card.
