Massive Power Outage Strikes LC

Around 1:00 am Monday morning, a massive power outage hit Lenoir City. The power outage included all of down town and widespread areas from Sugar limb to Ford Road and Muddy Creek. Power along Hwy. 321 from Walmart back toward the interstate was not affected. The Lenoir City Fire Department and extra man power was called on to assist in the city with intersection control and responding to calls.

Thieves wasted no time taking advantage of the darkness. A break in was reported at Ingles Grocery Store during the black out where the burglars were attempting to make off with beer and other items before LCPD arrived and took chase of the Thieves.

LCUB officials reported that a problem with breakers at the Rock Springs substation was the cause of the power failure and it could take several hours to repair the problem.

As of 3:00 am the power was still out.
