Maryville man gets lost while driving

A Maryville man was arrested Friday after getting lost while driving under the influence of Ambien.

Lenoir City Police Officer Ron DeLand was dispatched to U.S. Highway 321 and Town Creek Parkway in response to a silver car that had been speeding before wrecking into a median. The driver got out of the car, checked it and drove away. DeLand found a car matching the description on Highway 321 driving toward Oak Ridge, according to a report.

DeLand followed the car and watched it swerve all over the road.

After he stopped the car, DeLand talked with John Stanley Hitch, 66, the driver. Hitch appeared disoriented.

DeLand asked Hitch where he was coming from. He said he lives in Maryville and was trying to buy some cigarettes but was heading home. DeLand informed him he was in Lenoir City heading toward Oak Ridge, DeLand wrote in a report.

Hitch admitted to taking Ambien an hour prior to the incident. He also admitted to driving into a median, but he said he didn’t see any damage and drove off.

Hitch performed poorly on all field sobriety tests.

Hitch was charged with driving under the influence and released on $2,000 bond.

Man arrested after 911 hang-upA Lenoir City man was arrested Friday on drug charges after lying to officers about a domestic assault.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chance Gray was dispatched to a home on Old Bailey Road after someone called 911, laughed and hung up. At the home, Gray met Joe Edward Rolen, 57, who was waving his arms around, sweating and couldn’t stay still. Rolen told Gray a male relative had hit him but couldn’t provide details, Gray wrote in a report.

While waiting for additional deputies to arrive to check the home, Gray saw a plastic baggy with a green leafy substance hanging out of Rolen’s pocket. He also noticed the smell of marijuana.

As Gray took Rolen to the patrol car, Gray asked how much marijuana was in Rolen’s left pocket. Rolen had 5.5 grams of marijuana.

When other deputies arrived, they talked with a woman in the home who said there wasn’t a physical altercation but said Rolen had been acting strange all evening.

Before being placed under arrest, Rolen fell to the ground screaming and was attempting to throw up.

Rolen was charged with simple possession/casual exchange and released on $1,000 bond.
