Man jailed after murder attempt

A Lenoir City man has been arrested after a shooting prompted a manhunt by local law enforcement.

James Ronald Burch, 61, and a woman were arguing Nov. 10 when Burch took the woman’s keys and cellphone and locked a deadbolt so she couldn’t leave the residence.

Burch then shot the woman twice in the legs and once in the head, according to affidavits from Loudon County Sheriff’s Office. The victim was later able to leave and seek treatment.
After the shooting, Burch left the residence in a work van. LCSO considered Burch armed and dangerous, which prompted a search by several area law enforcement agencies.

Burch was taken into custody Nov. 13 in Powell with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force.
