A Rockford man was being held at the Blount County jail
Saturday as the suspect in a Friday night stabbing in
Greenback.
Blount County Sheriff’s Office deputies initially responded
to a residence in the 400 block of Meadow Road to a report
of a shooting at around 10:40 p.m. Friday.
Blount County dispatchers had initially been notified a
man had been shot in the hand, however authorities later
determined the victim was stabbed in the hand with a
knife.
Authorities immediately began searching for the suspect.
Not long after receiving the call, Sheriff’s Office
deputies and Maryville Police officers were involved in
a traffic stop on the subject at the four-way stop on
East Harper Avenue at Everett Avenue.
The suspect, a 79-year-old Rockford man, was in custody
and being transported to the Blount County jail at 11:35
p.m.
Blount County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marian
O’Briant said deputies did determine the suspect fired a
gun into the ceiling of the Meadow Road residence.
It was not immediately clear if the victim received
medical treatment or was transported to the hospital. It
was also not immediately known if he lived at the
Greenback residence where the incident took place.
As of Saturday night the investigation was ongoing and
the suspect had not been charged. He was being held at
the jail on an investigation of aggravated assault.
