Man arrested for DUI, evading after hitting Loudon Police unit

A Loudon man was taken to Loudon County Jail on numerous charges over the weekend after refusing to pull over for police, evading arrest and running into a patrol car.

Responding to the call of a possible intoxicated driver about 8:30 p.m. Sunday along Steekee Road in Loudon, Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Ronnie Reagan spotted the vehicle at Highway 11 and proceeded to follow the gold Cadillac.

Reagan attempted to pull over the driver as he noticed the vehicle swerving on the road. The driver, Jose Antonio Aquado Vargas, 26, Loudon, initially would not stop the vehicle, and Reagan, with assistance from Loudon Police Department, eventually stopped the driver at Highway 72 and Interstate 75.
“As I approached the vehicle with the Loudon Police units, the driver was ordered to unlock his doors and exit the vehicle and as he was attempting to do so his foot came off the brake and he rolled forward and struck the rear of a Loudon Police unit,” Reagan wrote in his report.
Vargas displayed signs of intoxication and gave “several false names and refused to cooperate with anyone,” Reagan said.
Through an interpreter, police requested a field sobriety test, which Vargas refused. The man did not have a driver’s license on him, according to the report.
Vargas was charged with driving under the influence, evading arrest, driving without a valid license and violation of implied consent and held on $7,000 bond.
