Loudon woman charged with second-degree murder, linked to illegal distribution of prescription drugs

ALCOA (WATE) - A Loudon woman was arrested Thursday on a charge of second-degree murder linked to the death of a man in 2011 and the illegal distribution of prescription drugs, according to Alcoa police.

A Blount County grand jury returned a sealed indictment on Monday against Kellie Geneva Abert, 43, on a charge of second-degree murder.

The case against her began with the death of William R. Lawson, 39, of Greenback, who was found in a room at the Hampton Inn in Alcoa on Aug. 4, 2011. Officials determined his death was suspicious.

Authorities spent the last year and a half investigating Lawson's death. They determined it was the result of the illegal distribution of a controlled substance, which brought officials back to Abert.

Abert is currently at the Blount County Jail on a $100,000 bond pending a hearing in Blount County Circuit Court.
