LOUDON (WATE) - Locals in the city of Loudon are excited about a new traffic light that's gotten the green light from TDOT.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation has given preliminary approval for a light at the Highway 72 and Carding Machine Road.

Locals say that intersection has gotten pretty busy ever since a few new businesses, like a Food City came into that strip mall. They say without a light there, it's tough to make a turn in off the highway.

Terry Garner from Terry's Auto Parts said, "Oh ya, it's real dangerous there without the light, especially at night. Glad to see a light go in."

The traffic count in that area does not meet the requirements for a new light right now, but TDOT allowed for growth.
