A Loudon man is dead after he was struck by a train late Monday night, just a few yards from where he was living in a rental house, authorities said.

Kenneth Drew Shea, 35, was killed just before midnight when he was struck by a northbound Norfolk Southern train near Highway 11 and Highland Avenue, Detective Brian Perkins said.

“It stopped fairly quickly, within a half mile,” the detective said.

Shea’s body was found 100 yards from the railroad crossing and only about 10 to 15 yards from a house he was renting, Perkins said.

The detective said it appeared the death was accidental.

“We don’t have any indication of a suicide, but he had an extensive history of drug use and there was drug paraphernalia found close to his body,” Perkins said.

More details as they develop online and Wednesday’s News Sentinel.
