PHILADELPHIA, Tenn. (WATE) – People in the Loudon County community are restoring a home to make sure a family has a place to live. Earlier this month, a tree fell on a mobile home near Philadelphia killing the family’s 3-year-old daughter and destroying nearly everything they had during a thunderstorm.

Longtime family friend Becky Richesin showed WATE 6 On Your Side Thursday afternoon what will be the new home for the Alvarez family. They haven’t had it easy.

“They needed to start fresh. They didn’t need to come back home where the tragedy occurred and the accident happened,” said Richesin.

The community is trying to help ease their pain. A dairy farmer and his wife decided to offer the family a house that sits on their land.

“About 30 years ago, we were in deep, deep debt and we just called on the Lord and he helped us and brought us out, but we did things to help other people too and that’s the way it should be,” said Rosemary Watson of Philadelphia.

The house does need some TLC. Dozens of people throughout the Loudon County community have been putting in several hours a day to make sure the house is ready for when the Alvarez family comes home to Tennessee.

They’ve been painting, putting down new carpet, and hanging up blinds. They’ve also received several donations for furniture and appliances.

The Alvarezes have been in Texas with other family members as they mourn their loss. The community’s goal is to turn the house into a home. The Alvarez family is expected to return home Tuesday. The plan is to have the home ready by the time they arrive.

The family is still accepting donations. An account has been set up for the Alvarez family at BB&T Bank in Loudon and Sweetwater.
