Loudon Annexation 5

Looks like the owner of the Dry Valley property wanting his property annexed into the City of Loudon is back at the table. On Wednesday's, 11/1/23, Loudon City's Planning Commission meeting is item D. and E. The meeting begins at 12:30 at Loudon City Hall.

This is the second time these requests have been on the planning agenda. Last month it was removed. It is my understanding that the planning commission does not support the request. So hopefully it will be voted down at planning. But no matter how the planning commission votes, they are just a recommending body to the Loudon City council. The mayor and council have the final decision. I also understand that Loudon mayor/realtor, Jeff Harris and at least some council members strongly support the annexation and rezone.

Why would the property owner want the property annexed into the city and have to pay higher property taxes? Because there's no way the county would ever allow such a zoning change and it's unfortunate that city officials would even consider this request.

All the residents in the area of the property are opposed to the annexation and rezone. County commission has already sent a letter of opposition to the annexation and rezone to the city. Loudon City has plenty of undeveloped industrial property. So it begs the question, why is Harris and some council members so determined to push forward with this annexation and rezone?

Why is Harris and some council members more concerned about what an out of town developer wants than they are about the people most effected by the proposed annexation and rezone?

I certainly hope it's not necessary, but I believe the county will take any actions necessary to protect the county residents in that area.
