Local men jailed following traffic stop

Two Lenoir City men were arrested after trying to get rid of drugs Feb. 6 following a traffic stop.

Loudon County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Dalton Harrison watched a car speeding on Interstate 75 and the driver only signaling lane changes halfway through the act. He initiated a stop on the southbound ramp of exit 76 and talked with the driver, Richard Bernard Strauser, 54, and passenger, Chancey Ray Green, 41.

According to Harrison’s report, Green appeared visibly nervous, while Strauser said he did not have his license.

Harrison asked Strauser to exit the vehicle and saw a needle in plain sight under the driver’s seat. Strauser admitted to being on probation and having a history of meth use.

Harrison obtained consent to search the vehicle, and Green revealed when exiting the car that he had a used needle in his pocket. During the search, Harrison located a small, clear baggie with crystal-like residue on the passenger floorboard that was bit in half and wet. When asked whether he ate the narcotics in the bag, Green confessed he did.

Harrison also found 0.9 grams of meth in a half-gallon chocolate milk container Strauser had during the stop. During the investigation, the narcotics dissolved into the liquid.

Strauser was charged with driving on a revoked/suspended license, manufacturing, delivery, sale or possession of meth, signal for turns, speed limit, tampering/fabricating with evidence and violation of probation and held on $9,000 bond.

Green was charged with capias-municipal court, tampering/fabricating with evidence and violation of probation and held on $10,500 bond.
